30 days left for leaving!
I can't wait. If in the past weeks I was a little bit in anxious now I am just excited and ready for starting this amazing experience.
The time is really heavy to stand right now, but only 30 days to leave and I know I can do it!
I realize that the time serves for making you more conscious about your next adventure. Before the match you spend all your time focusing on all the paper and picking a family and you are not able to realize what you are actually doing.
I really needed these months before the departure date.
Besides I am really lucky because I met my host family in Rome in advance! It was a huge luck!
We spent all a day together with my sister and her boyfriend. I really love them! They are amazing, and I couldn't choose better!
My biggest surprise was that I could talk to them openly, with no fear about anything, in a honest way, and this is a very difficult element to create in a relationship!
This meeting just made me more excited about leaving and spending time with them!
Now in this post I am going to explain you step by step what document prepare before or after the interview with the Au Pair In America agency.
Talking about my experience, before the interview I had everything ready and I needed only the approval by agency.
So the agency asks you the follow documents:
- One reference made by a friend or someone who knows you very well;
- Two references made by children's mothers for who you worked as babysitter. They mustn't be relatives, but they can be added in your childcare experience with no reference.
I remind you that the experience as tutor, volunteer and camp counselor are all approved.
- Criminal record;
- Passport;
- Diver's License and High School Diploma;
- Medical Form and Mantoux test;
- Introduction Video for the host families;
- Host Family Letter.
Talking about the references, the agency provides you forms which has to be filled and signed by your referent.
It can be filled directly in English or in your own language and in another copy you will have to translate the reference in English. Both the copies must be signed by your referent.
In the Childcare Reference there are the follow questions:
"How do you know the applicant (employer, family friend, childcare teacher, etc.)?"
"How long has the applicant been employed by you/cared for the children?"
There are also questions about name and gender of children, age and frequency of care.
"Describe any special skills the applicant showed"
They also wanna know how you handle stressful situations and how you adapt to new circumstances.
On the bottom there are the Referee's details (name, telephone number, best times to call, and if the referent knows speaking English), date and signature.
In the Character Reference you will find questions about your personality.
"How do you know the applicant?"
"How long have you known the applicant?"
"How would you describe the applicant's personality?"
Also here they ask how you handle stressful situations and adaptations to new circumstances
"Why would you recommend this applicant as au pair?"
On the bottom there are the Referee's details as for the Childcare Reference, date and signature.
The references must be true! Because the agency will contact the referees for being sure they exist for real and you worked for them.
Most of people wonder which are the questions asked by agency to Referees.
I think it's subjective. I mean it depends on which person you have as representative.
Mine called all of my referents and asked them their name and if they know me! That's it! Nothing more!
Regarding Criminal Record, you can get it doing request to the courthouse. Ask for an appointment, and then you go there after 3 days. Really simple!
About the Passport. It's really important you get it in advance! It takes 20 days for being ready. So as fast as you get it as fast as you can check one thing from the list.
As you know you have to get the Driver's License and the High School Diploma for joining in this program. You can ask for an appointment one or two months before being sure of getting both of them.
The agency will ask you to make filled by your doctor a Medical Form, which it forms by two parts, A and B. I need to fill the first one, and the B will be filled by your doctor.
In this form will be written all your tests made also when you were little, and if you've never done that tests you will have to do it. Especially about the Mantoux test, it's a test that probably you will have to do it.
Regarding the Presentation Video, it has to last max 3 minutes if I remember well. It's important to be yourself and spontaneous! It's not useful if I tell you to be funny or smiling because each person is unique, and you have to behave as you feel inside you.
I can just give some advice how make the video.
If you have a bedroom I suggest to use it as background. Of course it must be tidy up! If you will use the computer's camera, be sure behind you there's some picture or poster, something that can give an idea what you like or you personality.
If you have not a bedroom, I suggest to stay in the living room, always using some picture as background or a color wall or maybe also a window! As you prefer for letting you be comfortable.
If you aren't confident about your English you can write down a speech before recording in front of the camera. Make a list of important point you want to speak of and then just talk!
Who uses Mac I advice to use iMovie free software, it's awesome, and allows you to put some effects in the video.
For Windows users I advice to use Movie Maker software. It's pretty nice and also free!
I think the most important thing in your application is with no doubt your Host Family Letter.
Here as for the video, be yourself. Tell about the most important things for you in your routine, in your life, why it's so important being an Au Pair In America, talk about your experience with children and also about your hobbies!
This is your chance to underline your strength points and what you think it's important to make know to your host family.
Probably your representative will check and correct your letter for being sure there's not any error and will give you some advice for making your letter nicer!
These are all the documents you have to provide at your interview or upload after it!
Usually since you call for an appointment and to that date it spends 1 month more or less, I suggest to start collecting paper for being a step forward once you will do the interview with the agency!

Mancano 30 giorni alla partenza!Non vedo l'ora! Se nelle ultime settimane ero un po' in ansia ora sono solo entusiasta e pronta per iniziare questa esperienza straordinaria.
Il tempo è diventato pesante da sopportare in questo momento, ma mancano solo 30 giorni...posso resistere!
Mi rendo conto che il tempo serve a renderci più consapevoli della nostra prossima avventura. Prima del Match si passa così tanto tempo a concentrarsi sui documenti da recuperare e sulla selezione della host family che non si è in grado di realizzare ciò che si sta effettivamente realizzando.
Ne ho davvero avuto bisogno di questi mesi prima della partenza.
Inoltre sono stata molto fortunata, perché ho potuto incontrare la mia host family a Roma in anticipo! E' stato fantastico!
Abbiamo trascorso tutta la giornata insieme con mia sorella e il suo ragazzo. Io li adoro!
Sono incredibili, non potevo scegliere di meglio!
La cosa che mi ha colpito maggiormente è stata la libertà con la quale riuscivo a parlare apertamente con loro, senza paura di parlare onestamente, ed è un fattore molto difficile da creare in un rapporto!
Questo incontro mi ha reso solamente più entusiasta di partire e trascorrere del tempo insieme a loro!
Ora, in questo post ho intenzione di spiegare passo per passo quali documenti preparare da portare prima o a seguito del colloquio con l'agenzia Au Pair In America.
Con riferimento alla mia esperienza, ho preparato tutto ciò che occorreva prima del colloquio così che avevo solamente bisogno dell'approvazione dell'agenzia.
Allora, l'agenzia ti chiede i seguenti documenti:
- Una referenza fatta da un amico o qualcuno che ti conosce molto bene;
- Due referenze fatte dalle mamme dei bambini per le quali hai lavorato come baby sitter. Non devono essere tuoi parenti, nel caso possono essere aggiunti nelle vostre Childcare Experience però senza referenza. Vi ricordo che l'esperienza come tutor, volontario e responsabili nei campi estivi sono tutti validi.
- Precedenti penali - Casellario Giudiziale;
- Passaporto;
- Patente e Diploma di scuola superiore;
- Medical Form e test di Mantoux;
- Video di presentazione;
- Host Letter per la famiglia.
Per quanto riguarda le referenze, l'agenzia fornisce dei moduli da far compilare dal referente.
Può essere compilato direttamente in inglese o nella propria lingua, in quest'ultimo caso in un'altra copia dovrete poi tradurre la referenza in lingua inglese. Entrambe le copie devono essere firmate dal referente.
Nella Childcare Reference sono presenti le seguenti domande:
"Come conosci l'applicante (datore di lavoro, amico di famiglia, insegnate di childcare, ecc )?"
"Per quanto tempo ha lavorato per te/curato i bambini?"
Ci sono anche domande riguardanti il nome e il sesso dei bambini, l'età e la frequenza di cura.
"Descrivere particolari abilità che l'applicante ha mostrato"
Inoltre vogliono sapere secondo il referente se riuscite a gestire le situazioni di stress e come vi adattereste a nuove circostanze.
Sul fondo del form ci sono i dettagli del referente (nome, numero di telefono, ore in cui preferisce essere contattato e se il referente parla l'inglese), data e firma.
Nel Character Reference troverete delle domande sulla vostra personalità.
"Come conosci l'applicante?"
"Da quanto tempo conosci il candidato?"
"Come descriveresti la personalità del candidato?"
Anche qui chiedono secondo il referente come pensa possiate gestire le situazioni di stress e come vi adattereste a nuove circostanze.
"Perché consiglieresti questo applicante come au pair?"
Sul fondo ci sono dettagli del referente come nel Childcare Reference, la data e la firma.
Le referenze devono essere vere! Perché l'agenzia si metterà in contatto con i vostri referenti per essere sicura che siano reali e che abbiate lavorato davvero per loro.
La maggior parte delle persone si chiede quali sono le domande poste dall'agenzia ai referenti.
Penso che sia soggettivo. Voglio dire, dipende da chi avete come rappresentante/responsabile.
La mia ha chiamato tutti i miei referenti e ha chiesto loro il nome e se mi conoscono. Tutto qui! Non ha chiesto nulla più.
Per quanto riguarda il Casellario Giudiziale, si può ottenere facendo richiesta al tribunale. Si invia la richiesta online, (per chi è di Milano vedere qui: http://www.procura.milano.giustizia.it/casellario.html) dopo tre giorni lavorativi il casellario è pronto per essere ritirato. Bisogna richiedere il "Certificato Penale" per uso "amministrativo".
Al tribunale bisogna portare una marca da bollo da 16€ più una da 3,54€.
Riguardo il Passaporto invece è molto importante ottenerlo in tempo, io consiglierei di richiederlo prima del colloquio. Ci vogliono all'incirca 20 giorni dalla data di richiesta.

Alla questura bisogna portare:
- il modulo di richiesta che stamperete una volta preso appuntamento sul sito posto precedentemente;
- 2 fototessere formato 4x4;
- una marca da bollo da € 40,29;
- ricevuta di versamento di € 42,50, intestato al Ministero dell’Economia e Finanze – Dipartimento del Tesoro;
- la vostra carta d'identità.
Come saprete dovete ottenere la patente di guida e il Diploma di Maturità per poter partecipare ad Au Pair In America. Se il diploma non è ancora disponibile potete fare la scansione della certificazione di diploma che bisogna richiedere presso la vostra scuola.
L'agenzia vi chiederà di far compilare dal vostro medico di famiglia un Medical Form, composto da due parti: A e B. C'è bisogno che voi compilate la prima parte, mentre la B sarà compilato dal medico.
In questo modulo verranno scritti tutti i test effettuati anche quando eravate piccoli, e se non avete mai fatto qualche test dovrete effettuarli, e sicuramente dovrete rifare il test di Mantoux, solitamente lo si fa alle elementari ma deve essere fatto massimo 6 mesi prima della data del colloquio.
Per quanto riguarda il video di presentazione, che deve durare max 3 minuti se ricordo bene, è importante essere se stessi e spontanei! E' inutile se vi dicessi di apparire divertente e sorridente perché ogni persona è fatta a sé, e ci si deve comportare come ci si sente di farlo.
Posso solo dare qualche consiglio su come fare il video.
Se si dispone di una camera da letto vi suggerisco di usarla come sfondo. Naturalmente deve essere messa a posto! Se si intende utilizzare la fotocamera del computer, assicuratevi che dietro di voi ci sia qualche foto o poster, qualcosa che possa dare un'idea di ciò che vi piace o la vostra personalità.
Se non si dispone di una camera da letto, suggerisco di stare in salotto, sempre utilizzando alcuni quadri come sfondo o una parete colorata colore o magari anche una finestra! Come preferite, in modo da permettervi di sentirvi a vostro agio.
Se non siete sicuri del vostro inglese potete scrivere un piccolo discorso prima di registrarlo. Fate una lista dei punti importanti di cui volete parlare e poi registrate!
Chi utilizza Mac consiglio di usare il fantastico iMovie software gratuito, è impressionante, e ti permette di mettere degli effetti nel video.
Per gli utenti di Windows consiglio di usare Movie Maker. E 'molto bello e gratuito.
Sono dell'idea che l'elemento più importante della vostra application sia la vostra Host Family Letter.
Qui, come per il video, il consiglio è essere se stessi.
Raccontate le cose più importanti per voi della vostra routine, della vostra vita, perché è così importante diventare un Au Pair in America. Parlate della vostra esperienza con i bambini e anche i vostri hobby!
Questa è la vostra occasione per sottolineare i vostri punti di forza e cosa pensate sia importante far conoscere alla host family.
Probabilmente il vostro rappresentante controllerà e correggerà la vostra lettera per essere sicuro che non ci sia alcun errore e vi darà alcuni consigli per migliorare la vostra lettera!
Questi sono tutti i documenti necessari fornire durante il colloquio o da caricare in seguito!
Di solito da quando si chiama per un appuntamento passa all'incirca 1 mese, vi suggerisco di iniziare a procurarvi i documenti per essere un passo avanti quando farete il colloquio con l'agenzia.
