3 days left...and I've
kind of finished packing, finally!
I would like to share with you some advices for making your packing less crazy than mine. At least I will try.

First of all: make a copy of your important documents: passport, visa, medical form (where there are the proves of your immunizations to show it when you will attend the college) and take them with you in the States in case you will loose the original ones it will be easier to make them again.
Be sure to bring with you:

• ID card of your own country;
• Your driver's license;
• International Driver's License;
• Passport + DS2019 (you put them in your handbag cause you will have to show them a the airport in NYC)

Second of all: the luggage.

Size and weight limits change from air company to another. So better for you to contact the air company for being sure about everything. 

How to pack for one year?

Packing as lightly as you can and bring some clothes for each season. 

I've decided to bring more summer clothes because I am leaving in summer, so my advice is if you are leaving in December to bring more winter clothes than summer ones.

I remind you that you will have a lot of time to spend for shopping around! And your problem will be packing again at the end of your year.

I know for sure I will have to buy a second suitcase for my return. 

Another advice is to use the vacuum bags, they really help you to fill less space.

Shoes

I know shoes are really important, especially for the girls, but we will have to bring with us only those which are essential to us.
I will bring:

• 2 sneakers;
• 2 flat shoes;
• 1 gym shoes;
• 2 slippers (one of them is a flip-flop)
• 1 heels

Coats

It's really hard to choose what to bring with us, especially because the coats fill a lot of space.

I am bringing with me my Moncler (which I put into a vacuum bag), because it's the warmest coat I've ever had, and I am going to the North of the USA, so I will really need it!

Then I am leaving with a trench coat. 

Gifts

I put the presents for my host family in the big suitcase, among the different clothes where there are spaces to be filled. My advice is to bring something light and small of course. 

I bought two books, a lego play, a wood toy for the 2 years old girl, so nothing that you can break.

Handbag
My advice is to put in your handbag what you will need in the first day at your Orientation, besides all the documents you will need in airport, your beauty case and what you think you will need during the flight.

How can I fill less space?

Ok, are you good in puzzle? Because you're going to do the biggest and difficult one...more or less.
You have to fit each dress in the right way with everything you are going to put inside the suitcase.
Keep in mind you will have to bring with you some accessories, you can put them with no box, just among the clothes.
To understand where there's space to fill, just push with your hands the clothes inside the suitcase, you feel where there are less clothes than others points.

I was able to put inside also a moka for making italian coffee!

3 giorni alla partenza...e ho quasi finito di fare le valigie, finalmente!
Vorrei condividere con voi alcuni consigli per facilitarvi nel fare i bagagli e farvi impazzire meno di quanto sia impazzita io.

Prima di tutto: fate una copia dei documenti più importanti: passaporto, visto, certificato medico-medical form (dove ci sono le prove delle vostre vaccinazioni da mostrare quando farete l'iscrizione al college) e portateli insieme agli originali con voi negli Stati Uniti, così nel caso in cui li perdete sarà più facile rifarli.
Assicuratevi di portare con voi:

• Carta d'identità del proprio paese;
• La patente di guida;
• Patente internazionale;
• Passaporto + DS2019 (è metteteli nella borsa perché li dovrete mostrare all'aeroporto a New York)

In secondo luogo: i bagagli.
I limiti delle dimensioni e del peso variano da compagnia aerea a un'altra. Quindi vi consiglio di contattare la compagnia per essere sicuri dei limiti che dovrete rispettare.
Io volo con Emirates. Posso portare un bagaglio a mano max 7kg e una valigia grande max 23kg + la borsa personale.

Come fare la valigia per un anno?

Viaggiate il più leggeri che potete e portate dei vestiti per ogni stagione.
Io ho deciso di portare più vestiti estivi perché parto in estate, quindi il mio consiglio è, per esempio, se partite a Dicembre di portare più vestiti invernali rispetto a quelli estivi.
Vi ricordo che avrete un sacco di tempo per fare shopping! Il vostro problema poi sarà la valigia di ritorno dal vostro anno.
So per certo che dovrò comprare un'altra valigia per il mio ritorno.
Un altro consiglio è quello di utilizzare i sacchetti sottovuoto, aiutano davvero ad occupare meno spazio.

Scarpe
So che le scarpe sono molto importanti, soprattutto per le ragazze, ma potremo portare con noi solo quelle essenziali.
Io porterò:

• 2 scarpe da ginnastica;
• 2 scarpe basse;
• 1 scarpa da corsa;
• 2 ciabatte (una delle quali infradito) 
• 1 tacco alto

Cappotti
E 'davvero difficile scegliere cosa portare con noi, soprattutto perché i cappotti riempiono un sacco di spazio.
Io sto portando il mio Moncler (che ho messo in un sacchetto sottovuoto), perché è il cappotto più caldo che abbia mai avuto, e andando a nord degli Stati Uniti,  ne avrò davvero bisogno!
Poi partirò con addosso un trench.

Regali
Ho messo i regali per la mia Host Family nella valigia grande, tra i vari abiti dove c'erano spazi da riempire. Il mio consiglio è di portare qualcosa di leggero e piccolo, naturalmente.
Ho comprato due libri, un gioco lego, un giocattolo di legno per la bambina di 2 anni, quindi nulla che si possa rompere.

Bagaglio a mano
Il mio consiglio è di mettere nel bagaglio a mano quello che vi servirà nei primi quattro giorni di Orientamento, oltre a tutti i documenti di cui avrete bisogno in aeroporto, il vostro beauty case e ciò che pensate avrete bisogno durante il volo.

Come posso occupare meno spazio?

Ok, sei bravo a fare i puzzle? Perché farete quello più grande e difficile...più o meno.
Dovrete adattare ogni vestito nel modo giusto con tutto ciò che metterete nella valigia.
Tenete a mente che magari vorrete portar
e con voi alcuni accessori, che potete infilare senza scatola tra i vestiti.
Per capire dove c'è spazio da riempire, basta spingere con le mani sui vestit
i all'interno della valigia, sentirete dove ci sono meno vestiti rispetto ad altre zone.
Sono riuscita a mettere dentro anche una moka per fare il caffè italiano!

n.22 - 60 days left! What to do before leaving? - Mancano 60 giorni! Cosa fare prima della partenza?

60 days left for leaving!
Time is running, for real!

In these days I am really focusing on the visits to do before the X date.
I am realizing that I am a super organized person, I really like having all under control.

I am gonna share my "to do" list before departure:

• Pay agency;
• International Driver's License;
• Doctor control visit;
• Blood test;
• Dentist;
• Various specialist visits.

For the record, all the visits are more expensive than paying the agency!

It's important to do all the checks you need before the departure! It's true that you will have the insurance there (if you will decide to add extra-money for being covered by insurance also for the dentist for example), but better doing everything in your own country.

I made also a "to buy" list, but this changes for each of us. 

One thing I bought is the TSA luggages: http://www.tsa.gov/traveler-information/baggage-locks

I didn't want to find my luggage destroyed once arrived in the USA. The TSA locks help in case the security has to check inside our luggages, if after a scanning, it seems we have something "suspected"

inside.

Moreover you could need plug adaptors. 

My advice is to ask to your host family if they already have them before buying them. 

Also a lot of girls have doubts about bringing contact lens.

You can bring your contact lens on your hand luggage, but you've to put the solution in your hold luggage!

About the birth control pills, if any of you have doubts just contact me on Skype (ID: sweetjuls93) or write your email address in a comment, I will contact you!

Regarding of the hairdryer or towels, usually your family will provide them for you! Don't be afraid to ask them any questions before buying something that you will find once reached the host family!

Another question I raised up is: 

"If I pay in advance the agency, will I have more chances to get a direct flight?"

I'm going to report you what exactly the agency replied to me:

"Your flight is booked based on what the best option our flights coordinator can get at the time. Because we have several departure dates every month we aren't able to book your flight too far in advance so your flight will not be booked until towards 15-20 days before your departure We always try to get a direct flight if there is the option but it just depends on what our flights coordinator can get at the time of booking."

"And what about the return flight? If will I decide to stay in America for the 13th month will I have to pay it by myself?"

"Au Pair in America will pay your return flight for you, you just need to contact our US office towards the end of your year and they will book and pay for your return flight for you."

I know sometimes we think that we ask stupid questions, but better having all for sure that something unknown!

As soon as possible I will post other details about the first steps for joining the program, the gift for the kids, and other curiosity!

Il tempo stringe!

In questi giorni mi sto concentrando sulle visite da fare prima del giorno "X".

Mi sto rendendo conto di essere una persona super organizzata, mi piace avere tutto sotto controllo.

Condividerò con voi la mia lista "to do" prima della partenza:

• Pagare l'agenzia,
• Patente Internazionale;
• Visita medica di controllo;
• Esami del sangue;
• Dentista;
• Visite da vari specialisti (se necessario).

Per la cronaca, sono più costose tutte le visite che neanche la quota dell'agenzia!

E ' importante fare tutti i controlli necessari prima della partenza! E' vero che in America si avrà l'assicurazione  se si decide di aggiungere soldi in più per essere coperti dall'assicurazione anche per il dentista, per esempio), ma è meglio fare tutto nel proprio paese.

Ho fatto anche una lista "to buy", ma questa cambia per ognuno di noi .

Non vorrei trovare il bagaglio distrutto una volta arrivata ​​negli Stati Uniti. Le chiusure TSA servono nel caso la sicurezza debba controllare all'interno dei nostri bagagli, se dopo una scansione, sembra ci sia qualcosa di "sospetto".

Per quanto riguarda il phon o gli asciugamani, di solito ve li fornirà la vostra famiglia!

Non abbiate paura di far loro domande prima di acquistare qualcosa che troverete una volta che li avrete raggiunti.

Un'altra domanda che ho sollevato è:

"Se pago in anticipo l'agenzia, avrò più possibilità di ottenere un volo diretto?"

Vi copio esattamente la risposta dell'agenzia:

" Il volo è prenotato in base all'opzione migliore che il nostro coordinatore voli potrà ottenere al momento della prenotazione. Poiché abbiamo varie date di partenza ogni mese, non siamo in grado di prenotare il volo troppo in anticipo, che non sarà prenotato fino a 15-20 giorni prima della partenza. Cerchiamo sempre di ottenere un volo diretto se c'è la possibilità, ma dipende solo da ciò che il nostro coordinatore di voli riesce a ottenere al momento della prenotazione."

"E per quanto riguarda il volo di ritorno? Se deciderò di rimanere in America per il 13° mese dovrò pagarlo io?"

"Au Pair in America pagherà il volo di ritorno per te, basta contattare il nostro ufficio degli Stati Uniti verso la fine del tuo anno e saranno loro a prenotare e pagare il volo di ritorno per te."

So che a volte pensiamo di fare domande stupide, ma meglio avere tutto chiaro che rimanere coi dubbi!

Appena possibile posterò altri dettagli riguardanti i primi passi per l'adesione al programma, il regali per i bambini, e altre curiosità!
