I am in my second week in the States, and in my first into my new special family.
Before starting to talk about these first weeks I want to tell you that for living a really magical experience as skill you must need a really open mind and flexibility.
I loved my days during the Orientation!
I won't talk about NYC is, because I think that it's a personal opinion, I just want to talk about the atmosphere you will be able to breath during the training classes.
The program during the 4 days is really rigid. The alarm is set at 6:30am, and the training starts at 8 am. You have little more than a half of hour to get dressed and less than a hour to have breakfast.
During the Orientation you have agency member who you can speak to, with no fear. If you have doubt of any type just ask. They are all so kind and really available.
Once you get the meeting room you seat with the other Au Pairs and one of the agency staff will start the training. From child safety to learn CPR techniques by Red Cross. They are all interested things, you have the opportunity to write down some notes in your handbook that the agency will give to you, together other important documents such as the insurance card and your American ID (that you have to put in a safe place and don't loose. You will need them later in the family for administration stuffs).
About the NYC tour, there were people who didn't join to it because they would be stayed nearby, but mostly decided to come.
It's a really fun tour. You will be able to see NY from the top of the Rockefeller Center, go around Time Square for a while and in the end see in distance the Statue of Liberty.
My advice is to do it, you will have a great time!
What about the first week in the family?
Well, I can surely tell you about my first week, but it won't be the same for you.
It depends on who you matched with!
My first week was awesome! I love my host parents and my kids. I am taking care of 4 kids, and they are all so smart and sweet...of course sometimes they fight each other and tease but they are kids. If you wanna be in a family in which you will be calm and relaxed with no stress for all the year...you picked the wrong program. Being an Au Pair it's not for you.
The kids as soon as they picked me up at the airport with my host parents were so cute and excited of my presence in their home.
I have to say that I am their first Au Pair. So it's all something new, not only for me also for the kids and the host parents.
But it's a very unique experience.
4 kids can sound stressful and frightening, but it's not. I mean, I have my room and bathroom in the basement and they know they can't go in. One of them he's a little curious to see what I have in my room...and he's right. Because it's his home in the end, and I am the new one.
Everybody has to get used to each other.
The routine here it's not a routine, because everyday is different, and I like it! You must be really flexible, especially if you have to take care of a baseball team! :)
I live in Michigan, and I am driving, sharing my host mom's car. Driving here it's amazing. Large streets, automatic car, everybody respects speed limits, no traffic and if there is I can't realize...I am from Italy and there the traffic is really crazy and intense.
In the weekend I came my host family set a welcome party for me! So awesome. There were 30 people and they were all so happy to meet me!
My host parents' friends are amazing as they are. It couldn't be in other way.
Now the school is over, so everyday we try to do something different: going to swim, going to the zoo, going for a bike riding, going to the library, set some playdates.
During the summer there are different activities you can do!
But before dedicate the day to the activities, the kids must to have breakfast, make their bed, pick up their stuffs from the floor (they are really messy), brush their teeth...and then they can play baseball, Wii game, watch TV and so on.
I am not homesick at all since I left. I think it's because I really wanted to become an Au Pair, and I really love my host family. They are awesome. The best!
I love here...and as they say so far so good!

Questa è la mia seconda settimana negli Stati Uniti e la prima nella mia nuova speciale famiglia.
Prima di iniziare a parlare di queste settimane voglio dirvi che per vivere davvero una magica esperienza è necessario avere una mente molto aperta e flessibilità.
L'Orientamento è stato fantastico!
Non voglio parlare di New York, perché penso che sia un parere personale, voglio solo parlare dell'atmosfera che potrete respirare durante il training.
Il programma durante i 4 giorni è davvero rigido. La sveglia è alle 6.30, e il training inizia alle 08:00. Si ha poco più di mezzora per vestirsi e meno di un'ora per fare colazione.
Durante l'Orientamento ci sarà lo staff dell'agenzia con cui potrete parlare, senza timore, di qualsiasi dubbio o problema voi abbiate. Sono tutti gentili e molto disponibili.
Una volta che raggiungerete la sala riunioni vi sedete con le altre Au Pair e una rappresentante dell'agenzia inizierà il training. Sarete suddivisi in due gruppi, in due sale diverse in base al luogo in cui andrete dopo l'Orientamento (California, Midwest, Texas...o New Jersey, New York).
Parlerete di sicurezza dei bambini, imparerete le tecniche di pronto soccorso della Croce Rossa. Sono tutte cose interessati, avete la possibilità di scrivere alcune note nel manuale che l'agenzia vi darà, insieme ad altri documenti importanti come la carta di assicurazione e il vostro ID americano (che dovete mettere in un luogo sicuro e non perdere, ne avrete bisogno più avanti per procedure amministrative).
Riguardo il tour di New York, c'erano persone che non hanno aderito, perché sarebbero rimaste nelle vicinanze, ma la maggior parte ha deciso di venire.
Si tratta di un tour davvero divertente. Sarete in grado di vedere New York dalla cima del Rockefeller Center, Time Square e alla fine vedere in lontananza la Statua della Libertà.
Il mio consiglio è di farlo, vi divertirete tanto!!

Riguardo la prima settimana in famiglia?
Beh, posso sicuramente parlare della mia settimana, ma ognuno di voi ovviamente la vivrà in maniera diversa.
Dipende tutto dalla famiglia con cui avete fatto il match!
La mia prima settimana è stata fantastica! Amo i miei host parents e i bambini. Mi sto prendendo cura di 4 bambini, e sono tutti così intelligente e dolci ... ovviamente a volte litigano l'uno con l'altro e si prendo
no in giro, ma sono i bambini. Se volete stare in una famiglia in cui tutto sia calmo e rilassato, senza stress per tutto l'anno...avete scelto il programma sbagliato. Essere un Au Pair non fa per voi.
I bambini appena mi sono venuti a prendere all'aeroporto con gli host parents erano così carini ed emozionati della mia presenza nella loro casa.
Devo dire che io sono la loro prima Au Pair. Quindi è tutto qualcosa di nuovo, non solo per me anche per i bambini e i genitori ospitanti.
Ma è un'esperienza davvero unica!
Avere 4 bambini può suonare stressante e spaventoso, ma non lo è. Voglio dire, io ho la mia camera e bagno nel basement e sanno che non possono entrarci. Un bimbo è davvero curioso di vedere cosa c'è nella mia stanza...e come dargli torto? Alla fine è casa sua, e io sono la novità!
Ognuno deve abituarsi alla presenza dell'altro.
La routine qui non è routine, perché ogni giorno è diverso, e mi piace! Devi essere molto flessibile, soprattutto se ci si deve prendere cura di una squadra di baseball! :)
Io vivo nello stato del Michigan, e sto già guidando, condividendo la macchina della mia host mom. Guidare qui è incredibile. Grandi strade, auto automatica, tutti rispettano i limiti di velocità, senza traffico e se c'è non riesco a vederlo... in Italia il traffico c'è, ed è veramente pazzesco e intenso.
Nel fine settimana in cui sono arrivata in famiglia, mi hanno organizzato un party di benvenuto! Stupendo! C'erano 30 persone ed erano tutti così felici di incontrarmi!
Gli amici dei miei host parents sono incredibili così come loro. Non poteva essere altrimenti!
Ora la scuola è finita, così ogni giorno cerchiamo di fare qualcosa di diverso: andare a nuotare, andare allo zoo, andare a fare un giro in bicicletta, andare in biblioteca, organizzare dei playdates.
Durante l'estate ci sono diverse attività che si possono fare!
Ma prima di dedicare la giornata alle attività, i ragazzi devono fare colazione, fare il letto, prendere i loro giocattoli o vestiti da terra (sono davvero disordinati), lavarsi i denti ... e poi possono giocare a baseball in giardino, giocare alla Wii, guardare la TV e così via.
Riguardo la nostalgia di casa non la sto proprio sentendo da quando sono partita. Penso sia perché sono molto determinata ed ho un obiettivo fisso in mente, ho desiderato con tutta me stessa diventare un Au Pair, e sto amando la mia host family, le mie amiche, le persone del Michigan e il Michigan.
